How to Eat After the Cleanse

Basic suggestions
  • Eat raw foods, as much as possible because they are easiest to digest.
  • Eat an alkaline diet. Generally, all fruits, vegetables, and sprouts as well as their juice, when fresh or raw, are alkalizing to the body.
  • Avoid processed foods as much as you can.
  • Go organic whenever possible.
  • Eat locally when you can!
  • Drink plenty of pure water throughout the day.
  • Beware the nightshade. Many people find their health improves when they avoid tomatoes, potatoes, eggplant, peppers, and tobacco.

Improving Your Health in Other Ways

  • Do weight or strength training, and combine it with cardiovascular training.
  • Do yoga, Pilates, tai chi, gentle martial arts, or other nonextreme body work.
  • Practice relaxation.
  • Learn meditation.
  • Practice mindful living.
  • Love yourself unconditionally.
  • Use a shower filter to remove chlorine.
  • Choose a job you enjoy, or change the job you have to make it more satisfying.
  • Find activities that help you experience fulfillment or joy.
  • Become a foster parent, adopt a child, or mentor a troubled youth.
  • Offer one hour a week to an elderly neighbor who will enjoy your company and might have you do small projects.
  • Stop using shampoo and soaps containing sodium lauryl sulfate and similar compounds.
  • Cease using skin care products with preservatives or synthetic compounds, including perfumes.
  • Do not use a microwave oven.
  • Practice forgiveness.
  • Start a gratitude journal.
  • Choose friends who love and support you...and love them back.

Suggestions to help you optimize your results from the Master Cleanse

  1. Read this entire book before starting your cleanse. Don't take shortcuts.
  2. Pick 10 days to do the cleanse, marking them on your calendar or day-planner. Choose dates when you have little or no social engagements, and minimal travel requirements.
  3. Negotiate with your spouse or partner for them to do the cooking and grocery shopping for themselves and your children during the entire 10 days of your cleanse. Focus on yourself for a change.
  4. Plan to start the cleanse on the weekend or when you have several consecutive days off work. Most people find the first few days the hardest. Choose not to do the cleanse over a holiday.
  5. Think about those among your friends and family who will be most supportive of you, then arrange to spend time with them.
  6. Gather your ingredients in advance.
  7. If you drink coffee or caffeinated sodas, or eat chocolate or sugary foods on a daily basis, try to wean yourself away from these foods before starting the cleanse.
  8. Start a cleansing journal. Each day, keep track of how much lemonade you drink, whether you eliminate or not, and how you feel emotionally.
  9. Prepare yourself both mentally and emotionally.
  10. Make sure that if you feel tired you get lots of rest.
  11. Find something inspiring to read during your cleanse.
  12. Use affirmations to promote your healing.
  13. Wear bright-colored clothes. Spend time in the sunshine and breathe in the fresh air, and out with the old.
  14. Listen to inspiring music or watch edifying movies that depict positive changes, not violence or special effects.
  15. Use the time that you are not spending to shop for, prepare, and cook your normal foods as an opportunity to clean up your external life.
  16. Consider following an exercise program.
  17. Take a sauna and or use a steam room to assist the detoxification process. Infrared saunas, if available in your area, are the least stressful to the heart and the most efficient type of sauna to maximize the healing process.

The most typical mistakes that people make on a cleanse are:

  • Not preparing mentally for the cleanse or not reading the instructions first.
  • Not drinking adequate amounts of lemonade each day.
  • Waiting until too late in the day before drinking the first glass of lemonade. Drink it within the first several hours after you wake up.
  • Drinking more water than lemonade during the cleanse.
  • Not drinking the lemonade fresh, or not making the drink up in large quantities or in advance.
  • Taking the ingredients separately. Or omitting one ingredient altogether.
  • Not drinking the lemonade within 10 minutes of preparation.
  • Not taking the herbal laxative every night and every morning if you choose not to do the salt water flush.
  • Using honey or any other sweetener.
  • Stopping too soon.
  • Eating other foods.
