Dehydration, the lack of water for cells' use, is a serious health issue for most people now. It is caused by both not drinking enough water and from drinking/eating too many foods that leach water from the body, such as coffee, sodas, beer, chocolate and spicy dishes. The body needs two to three cups of water just to remove the stimulants from one cup of coffee, tea or cola. Prescription drugs and smoking are also culprits.
A deficient water supply causes the blood to thicken, forcing cells to give up some of their water to thin the blood. To hold on to the water that is left, they use cholesterol to thicken the cell walls but this also inhibits absorption, setting up a destructive cycle. To maintain a healthy water balance, drink at least six glasses of water per day and stay away from dehydrating substances.
It is common knowledge that excess body weight is a health hazard. But rapid weight loss is also dangerous. Lack of fat in the diet and minimal calorie intake both cause poor function of the digestive system, including the gallbladder, thus leading to gallstones. Losing weight slowly along with cleansing the digestive system and liver will lead to a healthy weight and body.
Eating fats has been labeled as the cause of heart disease but the actual culprit is excess protein. Fats are necessary to trigger the gallbladder to completely empty the bile for digestion. Excess proteins, on the other hand, cause thickening of the blood vessels in the liver and congest the blood and lymph system. According to the American Medical Association, 97 percent of heart attacks could be prevented by a vegetarian diet; avoiding animal protein promotes a healthy heart.
Pharmacological drugs, whether over-the-counter or prescription, are a prime cause of gallstones. Women are extremely likely to develop gallstones if they take birth control pills or hormone replacement therapy. Cholesterol-lowering drugs also increase the likelihood of gallstones because they take fats out of the blood but increase cholesterol in the bile. These are just a few examples but all drugs are actually toxic to the liver and treat the symptoms rather than the causes of disease. Cleansing the liver, gallbladder and intestines would do far more for regaining health than drugs.
Fluoride, found in many city water supplies as well as toothpaste, Teflon, and antibiotics, cannot be detoxified by the liver so it causes many health problems. Nobel Prize winner Dr. Albert Schatz called fluoridation "the greatest fraud that has even been perpetrated". Almost all Western European countries have banned its use now because laboratory tests have shown it to cause tumors, arthritis, osteoporosis, and brain damage of various kinds. The thyroid gland is especially affected, causing as many as 150 symptoms such as depression, weight gain, fatigue, joint pain, allergies, and migraines.
Our lifestyles have a major effect on our health. Our bodies follow more than a thousand natural rhythms in a 24-hour period. These rhythms control such things as digestive secretions, heart rate, and body temperature. Disrupting one of these rhythms causes all of them to go out of balance as they attempt to adjust.
One example of this is the hormone cortisol which regulates metabolism, blood sugar level and immune responses. Sunrise activates the release of cortisol, but sleeping late disturbs this cycle, causing other hormone cycles to be disrupted as well. The long-term reactions to this disruption of the cycle can include heart attack or stroke.
Mealtimes are another internal rhythm that is best to follow. Digestive enzymes and bile reach maximum levels in the middle of the day so the largest meal should be eaten then. They are least active during night. Optimal times for other meals are 8 a.m. breakfast and dinner before 7p.m. If this cycle isn't followed, food isn't digested properly and causes a build-up of congestion in the body's systems.
A surprising cause of gallstones is watching television. Research has shown that watching the quick action on the screen is stressful for the brain and causes a significant increase in cholesterol. The extra cholesterol alters the chemical make-up of the bile and contributes to gallstone development. A chain reaction of other stress responses such as rising blood pressure and bursts of adrenaline makes the body think it is deficient in nutrients, thus causing a craving for munchies.
The typical treatment for gallstones is either dissolving them in the gallbladder or surgically removing the gallbladder. This not only ignores all the gallstones in the liver but also causes great strain on the liver because it is now expected to take over the gallbladder's job. Since the liver isn't able to secrete sufficient bile, digestion is seriously inhibited and many health problems begin to develop.
